Red Hat Bugzilla – Bug 495089
kernel mode setting freezes pc
Last modified: 2009-04-17 17:25:00 EDT
I have these kernels installed:
kernel-220.127.116.11-46.fc11.x86_64 <- this one is fine!
The last two use what seems to be the full resolution of my screen, except when I expect the graphical login screen to appear, I either get nothing or some odd effect with white lines near the top of the screen. Switching to vt2 shows me a cursor flashing so fast that it would kill an epileptic.
Deleting the xorg.conf file (which s-c-d created) "solves" the problem!
Thanks for the bug report. Closing.

Ugh what a pain. It's not choosing the right video mode any more. I'm getting 1024 x 768.
To make things worse, switching vt to text mode shows the correct resolution, switching back to gdm shows nothing at all any more ("no signal detected").
Xorg log is attached:
Closing bug. Opening separate bug for this (bug 496335).
