Description of problem: When i connect an external monitor to my T60 thinkpad and boot the machine, the machine hangs after the gdm login. When i connect the screen after login there's no problem. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1.connecto monitor to portable 2.boot the machine 3. Actual results: After gdm login, the screen hangs. Expected results: normal screen behavior Additional info: there is no problem when the monitor is connected after user is logged in.
What kind of graphics chip is that? Are you sure you are using the radeonhd driver from the xorg-x11-drv-radeonhd package? (As opposed to the radeon driver from the xorg-x11-drv-ati package) What package versions of kernel, Xorg driver are you running? Any log files? Is the issue reproducible by running "Xorg :2" from a root console login shell? Can the issue be worked around by booting the kernel with the "nomodeset" parameter? Note that the radeonhd driver only works with nomodeset.

I'd like to ask you to reproduce the issue with current package versions and answer the questions from comment #1. If we do not get any more information, we cannot solve this bug and have to close it INSUFFICIENT_DATA.
Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major updates in various components of the Xorg system, which may have resolved this issue. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade their system to the latest version of their packages.
