too much padding

No exactly sure what aspect of the screenshot you consider broken ? 
Other than the fact that showing pages-worth of lists in a treeview cell is never going to go well...

It's in the details column, there's 100 pixels wasted between the line with "glibc-devel" and the next row of text starting with Installed.

Try opening the gpk-log program and resizing the window. The cell rows automatically get higher, but don't shrink down automatically.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 11 development cycle.
Changing version to '11'.
