Additional info:

Comment 1 Brent Fox 2001-07-23 19:03:31 UTC
Can you try booting with 'nofb' at the bootup prompt? Does that help?

Comment 2 Michael St. Laurent 2001-07-23 20:36:09 UTC
Yes, I've tried nofb and had the same results. Only using the text install
worked. However, the text install was able to sucessfully install and
configure X window and X continued to work just fine once the install was done.

Comment 3 Michael St. Laurent 2001-07-23 20:38:22 UTC
Also, I tried "linux ide=nodma" and "linux video=nodma" thinking that it might
be the recently talked about DMA issue but these had no effect either. I tried
installing 7.0 to see what would happen and that went fine.

Comment 4 Brent Fox 2001-07-26 15:20:15 UTC
So where does the GUI installer freeze? Does it freeze immediately or does it
freeze when you press the "Test" button in the X configuration screen of the
installer?

Comment 5 Michael St. Laurent 2001-07-26 16:08:42 UTC
It freezed before the very first Input (I think where it asks for the Language).

Comment 6 Michael Fulbright 2001-07-27 20:07:40 UTC
Please attach the /etc/X11/XF86Config and /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 files from the
successful install attempt.

Comment 7 Michael St. Laurent 2001-07-30 18:23:53 UTC
OK. They are below.

When it freezes, can you press <Ctrl><Alt><F4> and see if there are any messages
on the screen?

Comment 9 Michael St. Laurent 2001-08-20 17:29:45 UTC
Ctl-Alt-F4 does nothing. The system becomes completely locked-up and will not
even respond to Ctl-Alt-Del. I have to cycle the power to reboot it.

On another note, I've tried the Roswell Beta and it installs flawlessly on this
platform.

Comment 10 Brent Fox 2001-08-27 21:45:11 UTC
Well, a lot of the X configuration code changed, so that may explain why it
works now. Are you comfortable with closing this as RAWHIDE?

Comment 11 Michael St. Laurent 2001-08-28 18:03:50 UTC
OK. :-)
