Preupgrade should retry using a different mirror if it gets a checksum error downloading a file (i.e. installer image). If it use always the same mirror and that mirror provide a buggy file it will never go forward.

I'm having this problem using preupgrade in Fedora 11 trying to upgrade to Fedora 12. The file 'install.img' gets a bad checksum and preupgrade is allways using the same mirror.
So I change version to Fedora 11. Pedro, meanwhile you can bypass this bug editing the file /var/cache/yum/preupgrade/mirrorlist.txt. Simply comment out (with #) the line of the first mirror in the list to use the second. ;-) Mattia
Thanks for the tip. It helped and i upgraded to F12, but i've encountered more bugs on the way and despite some random behavior of preupgrade i managed to upgrade.

Fedora 11 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-06-25. Fedora 11 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.
