Description of problem: Whenever Fedora 11 (latest version) loads up, an error about a kernel failure that mentions ALSA appears. Details: Kernel Failure message 1: ALSA sound/core/pcm_lib. c: 166: BUG: stream = 1, pos = 0xaaa, buffer size = 0xaaa, period size = 0xaaa Kernel Failure message 2: ALSA sound/core/pcm_lib. c: 166: BUG: stream = 1, pos = 0xaaa, buffer size = 0xaaa, period size = 0xaaa I am also completely unable to get any sound whatsoever out of Fedora. It does seem to recognize my chipset, as the tooltip that shows up upon hovering over the sound icon mentions the ice1712 chipset (the one on my card). Aside from having no sound, programs such as musicbox simply refuse to play anything (when I hit play, nothing ever happens). The message shows up every time shortly after Fedora loads, and does not seem to appear again after that. How reproducible: I do not know the entire details of the problem, all I can assume is that you must have an emu10k1 audio card. Additional info: I am using an M-Audio Delta 1010LT sound card. Another user at the Fedora forums also mentioned that I am not the only experiencing this problem. **Attached is the output from the alsa-info.sh command.**

Not actually emu10k1. Your card is ice1712. I said it was _similar_ to another issue which affects emu10k1. :) That's https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=502698 , for reference. FWIW, I have an ice1724 card and am not seeing this. Don't know of anyone with an ice1712 different from Chris' card, so we can see if it affects multiple ice1712 cards or just this one... Can you look at the contents of /var/log/messages and see if there's any more errors of this type there, or different errors from when you try to play sound? -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers
I just happened to come across a bug that may well be what you're suffering from... Can you read https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=499435 and see if that looks like your issue? Thanks! -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers
Ok, I'm back. The symptoms shown in that other bug appear to be the same. I'm going to head off to Fedora here soon and do some more experimenting and look at the contents of that log as well (Fedora is unable to connect to the internet for some reason). In the mean time, here's some more kernel failures that may or may not help.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 11 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 11. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '11'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 11's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 11 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 11 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-06-25. Fedora 11 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
