xorg.conf w/ 1600x1200 Screen and Monitor settings

Description of problem:

Fresh install of Fedora 11 x86_64 on MacPro server defaults to 800x600; higher resolutions not detected

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Fedora 11 x86_64 install DVD

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Buy this: http://www.cdw.ca/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=1698818
2. Install 2x1G extra RAM in recommended slots (total 8x1G RAM)
3. Install 3x640G extra drives in SATA bays 2-4.

Actual results:

Installs OK, but on first boot post install, X comes up @ 800x600 max resolution.

Note that to get the installer to work I had to use "vesa" mode rather than default setting.

Expected results:

"Just Works" video support, like when I boot the machine into the Mac OSX Server partition. Detection of resolutions @ frequencies of my Sceptre 24" 1600x1200x24@60Hz monitor.

Additional info:

Attached is the xorg.conf file I had to use to get correct video resolution.

Can you remove the xorg.conf, and post /var/log/Xorg.0.log of the nouveau driver so I can see what's actually going on?

/var/log/Xorg.0.log

1. renamed /etc/X11/xorg.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.GOOD
2. captured /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Will attach same file again after restarting.

Should I also try starting with a simpler xorg.conf, with only this?

Comment 3 Nick Boldt 2009-06-28 02:09:03 EDT
After renaming the xorg.conf file, I can no longer get X to start; I get past the rEFIt menu, then the screen stays black even as USB drives are loaded/mounted.

So... until I can figure out how to mount ext2, ext3, or ext4 partitions under Mac OS X Server 10.5 ... I'm effectively screwed. :(

Boot to runlevel 3 - kernel parameter '3'.

That log still seems to show the VESA driver. Nouveau isn't mentioned once...

Comment 6 Nick Boldt 2009-08-21 17:07:51 EDT
Unfortunately, I blew away the partition w/ F11 on it because it wasn't working
and I needed to move forward.
Comment 7 Ben Skeggs 2009-08-23 19:46:05 EDT
Ok, I will close this then. If you happen to retry at a later date, or on rawhide and the issue still occurs, please reopen!
