Description James Laska 2009-09-03 17:22:16 UTC
Description of problem:

Boot IBM Power6 with "vnc"

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

anaconda-12.20

How reproducible:

Seems to be consistent with F-12-Alpha and rawhide.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot a boot.iso
2. From the serial console, boot: linux64 vnc
3. Proceed through loader and attempt to initiate a VNC install

Actual results:

Running anaconda 12.20, the Fedora system installer - please wait.
17:07:59 You do not have enough RAM to use the graphical installer. Starting text mode.

Expected results:

VNC should start without error

Comment 1 James Laska 2009-09-03 17:34:27 UTC
Well, I think I see why it's forcing text-mode.

sh-4.0# grep -i mode /tmp/anaconda.log
17:06:36 INFO : vnc forced cmdline mode from cmdline
17:07:59 INFO : Display mode = g

Just not sure if that's supposed to be the case.

Does updates=http://clumens.fedorapeople.org/521109.img fix it?

Comment 3 James Laska 2009-09-03 20:30:53 UTC
Indeed, it does. Thanks!

20:29:12 Starting VNC...
20:29:13 The VNC server is now running.
20:29:13

WARNING!!! VNC server running with NO PASSWORD!
You can use the vncpassword=<password> boot option
if you would like to secure the server.

20:29:13 Please manually connect your vnc client to test1138.test.redhat.com:1 (10.10.10.138) to begin the install.

Comment 4 James Laska 2009-09-03 20:35:46 UTC
Well, it gets far enough along to start the server. The vnc server just shows a black screen. I'm not sure what that would be.

I've retested with "serial" so that I can get access to a shell on the serial console ... but pressing <enter> doesn't drop me into a shell.

20:33:28 Please manually connect your vnc client to test1138.test.redhat.com:1 (10.10.10.138) to begin the install.
Press <enter> for a shell

Comment 5 Chris Lumens 2009-09-03 21:30:14 UTC
This issue at least should be fixed in the next build of anaconda.
