Description of problem: When attaching an external screen, it is properly detected in the Display setup applet of Gnome. When trying to activate it as extended desktop, it is marked as active, but the LCD itself remains black with no sign of signal coming to it. When Clone Desktop is clicked, the applet iteslf probably crashes since it simply vanishes without any other messages coming up. If I connect the screen before starting the unit, it comes on during boot and disappears after login, whichprobable is normal. After that, I can activate extended desktop. Clone mode gives however the same result as above. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Rawhide. Kernel version 2.6.31-0.204.rc9.fc12.i686 How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start up unit with external screen disconnected 2. Login 3. Start Display applet under system > preferences 4. Attach a second LCD and confirm that it is detected poperly 5. "Turn on" (resolution is set right automatically) and click Apply 6. Watch when nothing happens :) Actual results: No picture on external screen. Or when clone mode is selected, no clone mode AND the display config application just vanishes. Expected results: The external LCD comes on and shows either the extended desktop or cloned desktop. Additional info: This does not work in Fedora 11 either. The display config program does not crash when the clone mode is selected, but apart from that, every other result is the same. I have tested this on 3-4 different Toshiba's and they show exactly the same issue. In Fedora 10, this worked well on all my Intel-video machines.
Hi Fedora crew Is there any input You need from my side to work on this? The updates I have seen is that the Display applet no longer crashes. But apart from that, the issue is the same. BR Tom
Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major updates in various components of the Xorg system, which may have resolved this issue. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade their system to the latest version of their packages (at least F12Beta, but even better if the very latest versions). Please, if you experience this problem on the up-to-date system, let us now in the comment for this bug, or whether the upgraded system works for you. If you won't be able to reply in one month, I will have to close this bug as INSUFFICIENT_DATA. Thank you. [This is a bulk message for all open Fedora Rawhide Xorg-related bugs. I'm adding myself to the CC list for each bug, so I'll see any comments you make after this and do my best to make sure every issue gets proper attention.]
Hi The issue is still there. However it turns out that the problem is not of the intel driver. I dont know if it is a kernel issue or something else. Anyway, the latest findings are that the problem only concerns Toshiba units with Toshiba BIOS. A Toshiba unit with a BIOS from any other vendor (Phoenix, Insyde...) works as I would like it to do. Vice versa, any Toshiba with Toshiba BIOS has the above problem - even non-intel video units. I have tested: Portégé M400 (Intel video, Toshiba BIOS) Portégé R500 (Intel video, Toshiba BIOS) Tecra A8 (Intel Video, Toshiba BIOS) Tecra M3 (nVidia Video, Toshiba BIOS) Tecra M5 (nVidia Video, Toshiba BIOS) Tecra M9 (nVidia Video, Toshiba BIOS) All above with the same problem and same workaround as described above. I have also tested: NB100 (Intel video, Insyde BIOS) Satellite L40 (Intel video, AMI BIOS) Satellite L300 (Intel video, Phoenix BIOS) All of the last models when used with external screen works as expected - means I can switch to external screen directly after having connected the cable. Let me know if I can be of any help in testing or providing detailed information. BR Tom
Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue. Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available), output of the dmesg command, and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below. We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information. Thanks in advance.
Hi I will attach 3 set of files. 1st set is for no ext screen attached scenario. (single LCD) 2nd set is for ext screen attached BEFORE rebooting (dual screen) 3rd set is for ext screen attached AFTER rebooting (dual screen rebooted) BR Tom

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle. Changing version to '12'. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '12'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
