The release notes for F12, at least the Swedish PO file I'm currently translating, has a message #. Tag: para #: HardwareOverview.xml:65 #, no-c-format msgid "" "The following CPU specifications are stated in terms of Intel processors. " "Other processors, such as those from AMD, Cyrix, and VIA that are compatible " "with and equivalent to the following Intel processors, may also be used with " "Fedora. Fedora &PRODVER; requires an Intel Pentium or better processor, and " "is optimized for Pentium 4 and later processors." But rawhide is built for i686, which I thought translated to Pentium 4. So I didn't think a "plain" Pentium was supported any longer. Have I confused the meaning of these i?86 numbers, or is it a bug in the release notes?
Yes, it's a mistake -- thanks for the catch! It's not quite as bad as that, however: P5 (i586) was the original Pentium microarchitecture; Intel introduced P6 (i686) in 1995 as the Pentium Pro and continued it in the Pentium II and Pentium III. The Pentium 4 was based on the NetBurst architecture that followed P6. Strictly, then, we should say "requires an Intel Pentium Pro or better processor". I'll make sure this gets fixed when we next regenerate the POT files.
So it wasn't me OR the release notes. We were BOTH wrong. :-)
Pentium Pro requirement noted in the GA release notes.
