Red Hat Bugzilla – Bug 527025
[polkit] only root can read from a diskette
Last modified: 2009-10-03 11:59:49 EDT
Description of problem:
Can't open /dev/fd0: Permission denied
Cannot initialize 'A:'
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Insert diskette into floppy drive.
2. Run 'mdir' from a console.
Read permission is denied.
Read permission is granted.
Running 'mdir' as root allows to read from the diskette as expected.
Not a polkit bug - FYI udev handles ACLs and I'm pretty sure we don't want ACLs on /dev/fd0 for the same reasons we don't want ACLs on e.g. USB sticks (mounting/unmount/formatting etc is handled by the file manager / palimpsest). Closing as WONTFIX.
