Description Joshua Jensen 2001-09-04 23:40:09 EDT
Description of Problem:

In RC2, as in 7.1, I can't "ifup eth0" without eth0:0 coming up too. This
seems like a bug.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

All "stock" RC2

How Reproducible:

Here are my files:

[root@mule root]# more /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth*
::::::::::::::
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
::::::::::::::
DEVICE=eth0
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=10.10.2.79
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=10.10.2.1
::::::::::::::
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:0
::::::::::::::
DEVICE=eth0:0

ONBOOT=no

BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=10.10.88.88
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=10.10.88.1

Steps to Reproduce:
1.   Create above files
2.   ifdown eth0
3.   ifup eth0

Actual Results:

[root@mule root]# ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:10:A4:F5:3C:8D
          inet addr:10.10.2.79  Bcast:10.10.2.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:15427 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:14048 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0
          RX bytes:6721621 (6.4 Mb)  TX bytes:1688838 (1.6 Mb)

eth0:0    Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:10:A4:F5:3C:8D
          inet addr:10.10.88.88  Bcast:10.10.88.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:162 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:162 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0
          RX bytes:10204 (9.9 Kb)  TX bytes:10204 (9.9 Kb)

Expected Results:

Only eth0, not eth0 _and_ eth0:0, would come up.

Additional Information:
Comment 1 Bill Nottingham 2001-09-04 23:48:17 EDT
This is the expected behavior, and has been forever.

ifup-post brings up all aliases for the specified device.
