Red Hat Bugzilla – Bug 536740
Bluetooth receives files into desktop rather than downloads folder
Last modified: 2009-11-16 10:25:47 EST
Description of problem:
The gnome-user-share preferences dialog says "Receive files in Downloads folder over Bluetooth". However files sent over bluetooth appear in the Desktop. Opening a nautilus window for the desktop shows an extra bit for personal file sharing where as the downloads folder does not show this.
The help doc says Downloads should be in the home directory.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable "receive files over bluetooth"
2. Send file to local machine
Files appear on Desktop
Files should appear in Downloads folder
This means your XDG downloads directory is set up to be your Desktop.
What's the contents of ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs?
I gather that this was an upgrade from F11?
XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR was pointing to my desktop. I've now pointed it to my Downloads folder and the expected results appear.
This was an upgrade from f11.
Perhaps the docs need to be changed to reflect the use of XDG rather than assuming $HOME/Downloads?

It actually says "Downloads folder in your home directory", not ~/Downloads
Anyway, the original bug was a misconfiguration. If you feel strongly about the documentation problem, I would invite you to file this as a documentation bug upstream.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle.
Changing version to '12'.
