init error backtrace

Description of problem:
After today's (2009/11/12) yum update XEmacs gets an initialization error, or whenever it tries to "make" some faces, if the XResource default.attributeFont is set.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Not sure in which package the error resides. These are my xemacs packages post update:
xemacs-21.5.29-6.fc11.i586.rpm
xemacs-common-21.5.29-6.fc11.i586.rpm
xemacs-el-21.5.29-6.fc11.i586.rpm
xemacs-info-21.5.29-6.fc11.noarch.rpm
xemacs-packages-base-20090217-3.fc11.noarch.rpm
xemacs-packages-base-el-20090217-3.fc11.noarch.rpm
xemacs-packages-extra-20090217-4.fc11.noarch.rpm
xemacs-packages-extra-el-20090217-4.fc11.noarch.rpm
xemacs-packages-extra-info-20090217-4.fc11.noarch.rpm

How reproducible:
every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. set XEmacs.default.attributeFont to something via .Xdefaults or equivalent. I have:
  XEmacs.default.attributeFont: -adobe-courier-medium-r-normal--20-140-100-100-m-110-iso8859-15
2. start XEmacs
3.

Actual results:
init error and undesirable small font :-) Backtrace attached

Expected results:
my iso8859-15 font!

I also see after a yum upgrade to xemacs-21.5.29-6 on fedora 11, although I don't know how to produce the init error backtrace.

Also, I am not able to modify the font using the xemacs
'Options -> Font' or 'Options -> Font Size' menu items,
or using the set-frame-font command.

The font stays stuck at

-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso10646-1

Hmmm. Every time I try to solve one font problem, I cause another. I should clearly be fired for gross incompetence.

Could one of you see if this build fixes the problem? It tries a different approach to the previous font problem I was trying to fix. I'm guessing my first attempt is what caused this problem.

Thanks.

15 second test indicates that this fixes it, or at least I got my font back

Comment 4 Jerry James 2009-11-13 23:24:03 UTC
That's promising. Would you mind testing it a little longer? If you don't have any major problems in the next day or so, I'll push that build to stable. Or you are welcome to go use the karma system to try to push it faster. :-) Thanks.

Comment 5 Henrique Martins 2009-11-13 23:51:18 UTC
I've been running it for over 30 minutes, loaded it on work and home machines. It initializes properly, I get my font, several modes I tried (mh-e, perl, cc, tex) colorizes fine. No apparent differences from two days ago.

(There's a bug somewhere with gnuclient/gnuserver that has to do with TTYs, but that was present in the previous version too, and I haven't had time to track it down.)

If something breaks, I'll follow up here. Not sure how to use the karma system...

Hi,
I just tried out your modules

xemacs-21.5.29-7.fc11.i586.rpm
xemacs-common-21.5.29-7.fc11.i586.rpm
xemacs-el-21.5.29-7.fc11.i586.rpm

myself and they fix the font problems for me also. Thanks for
quick work!

Comment 7 Jerry James 2009-11-16 15:56:55 UTC
Thanks for the feedback, Henrique and Dan. I will push this update today.

Comment 8 Jerry James 2009-11-19 18:18:38 UTC
Those builds have been pushed to stable, so I'm closing this bug. Let me know if you have any further font-related problems.
