This is seen reproducibly when starting a gnome session over vnc. This is logging in through GDM with xdmcp enabled. In /etc/xinetd.d I have a file which contains: service vnc1280x1024 { disable = no socket_type = stream protocol = tcp wait = no user = nobody group = tty server = /usr/bin/Xvnc server_args = -inetd -query 127.0.0.1 -once -SecurityTypes None -geometry 1280x1024 -depth 16 } And in /etc/services I have vnc1280x1024 6900/tcp # Local vnc server And so I connect to port 6900 with a vnc client (actually the connection is forwarded over ssh) and log in via GDM - the gnome session starts, and g-s-d crashes. This is with tigervnc-server-1.0.0-1.fc12.x86_64.
