Description of problem: Need simple quick summary of vital data, like kernel version, gnome/kde versions, etc. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): current release notes. Actual results: Have to search down to "8.7.3. System Environment-Kernel" to get a hint what to tell VMWare is the guest Linux type. Expected results: Y'all are still proud of having recent levels, right? And I know y'all used to mention these early, if not prominently... Right now, first semi-mention of that kernel thingy is under "4.1.2. Better webcam support" ?? Additional info: Not everyone is conversant with the current state of things - hand 'em a clue?
I think we should have a section like 'Changes in Fedora 12: Summary' including info on Kernel, desktops and other package versions. The question is also about how much of 'How-To' info to include in the release notes. Ideally the user should be referred to the user-guide. A prominent notice should be in place. We have a reference to the install guide, but none for the user guide. Obviously this can only be rectified in a future release.
Triage Info: Agreed it is a good idea, but needs some thought about structure. Obviously, webcam support isn't the place. Does someone want to offer a suggested list of key components? All of the versions are available in the All Changes chapter, but obviously the important ones get lost.
I'll see whether I can do something this release, certainly next. Taking this.
The Fedora Technical Notes now lists versions of ALL components (since nobody could give me a list of "key" components, and that probably depends on who you are anyway). Every changed package is listed by RPM group, and there is an alphabetical index. Closing this.
