Created attachment 373894 [details] screenshot showing the lack of choices. Description of problem: Power-manager no longer show suspend hiberate choices Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gnome-power-manager-2.28.1-5.fc12.x86_64 kernel-2.6.31.6-148.fc12.x86_64 (from koji) and kernel-2.6.31.6-145.fc12.x86_64, and before that. How reproducible: always - since upgrading to F12 Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: No choices shown Expected results: choices shown and works. Additional info: According to /var/log/pm-suspend.log, I last suspended on 'Sat Nov 21 11:43:59 GMT 2009: Running hooks for suspend.' with kernel 2.6.30.9-99.fc11.x86_64 . It is a laptop so I just suspend/resume as far as possible rather than power down/up. I upgraded to F12 a day after that. rpm -qi fedora-release Install Date: Sun 22 Nov 2009 07:22:01 GMT Also, I tried echo to /sys/power/state for command-line suspend and machine crashed. This might be a kernel/hal/dbus issue and do ask/re-assign if appropriate.
If you click System -> Shutdown the choices should be there. The suspend and hibernate options were removed from gnome-power-manager during gnome 2-28 as it was decided they were the wrong place to do such actions.
Yes, those choices are there in the shutdown menu (and were there in F11). I have not tried running it from the shutdown menu until yesterday, frustrated at the lack of choices at the usual place - and machine crashed, as in echo on the command line to /sys/power/ . So trying to suspend now crash the machine, and it used to work, 4 days ago in F11. Now I guess I have a crash-on-suspend problem. and as a side-suggestion, perhaps this change of user interface could be mentioned in the 'F12 common bugs' and in the release notes?
@Richard: So may I ask if the decision on removing those buttons from gnome-power-manager is finalized? Those suspend and hibernate choices there were very convenient, Especially when there is not short-cut key on keyboard(or no short-cut key working with linux). Can we argue with them on an option on preferences or a value on gconf to enable them? I know this may not be a very big deal, but these small pieces make free-software convenient and popular.
Please add a release note to the "Changes in Fedora for Desktop Users" section that states this change. I would rather have the suspend/hibernate choices available on the gnome-power-manager menu though.

Yup, the GConf key is gone in git master. > Those suspend and hibernate choices there were very convenient, Especially when > there is not short-cut key on keyboard(or no short-cut key working with linux). Shortcut keys can be fixed. You can always add a suspend button to the panel. > Can we argue with them on an option on preferences or a value on gconf to > enable them? This really isn't the sort of thing we want in the prefs dialog. > I know this may not be a very big deal, but these small pieces make > free-software convenient and popular. Sure, but sometimes you have to change things to follow a coherent vision.

@Richard, thanks so for people who feel this is a bug gconftool-2 -s /apps/gnome-power-manager/ui/show_actions_in_menu -t bool true will put the buttons back again
I guess now in FC13 Alpha we have a real bug the gnome-power-manager is gnome-power-manager-2.29.91-3.fc13.x86_64 Although the keys are set in gconf (they work on fc12) the menu items are not shown.
