Description David Woodhouse 2010-01-08 15:19:58 UTC
After following the instructions at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_make_Mozilla_applications_use_system_nss firefox can no longer remember passwords. Certificates are fine.

I've created a new firefox profile and removed the old contents of ~/.pki/nssdb too. And when I run firefox with libnsssysinit.so enable (in the pkcs11.txt file in my firefox profile directory), passwords aren't remembered. If I disable libnsssysinit.so again, then it works fine.

firefox-3.5.6-1.fc12.x86_64
nss-3.12.5-2.fc12.x86_64

When firefox should 'learn' a new password, it pops up the bar at the top asking it it should store the password. I click 'Remember' but nothing happens, and the bar stays where it is instead of disappearing as it should.

Looking in the error console, I see:

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "'User canceled master password entry, login not added.' when calling method: [nsILoginManagerStorage::addLogin]" nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)" location: "JS frame :: file:///usr/lib64/xulrunner-1.9.1/components/nsLoginManager.js :: anonymous :: line 454" data: no]

There's no password on the database.

I'm not yet clear what
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_make_Mozilla_applications_use_system_nss
achieves.

I may be wrong, but I suspect these instructions will tell Mozilla to use that system nss, only.

If I'm right, then Mozilla is probably unable to write to the /etc database, because that directory is owned by root (of course), not by the user.

Comment 3 David Woodhouse 2010-06-13 10:44:31 UTC
Could be related to bug 603313?

Kai, no -- the point of the system database is that it _also_ opens ~/.pki/nssdb as an 'overlay', and the user can write there.

This package has changed ownership in the Fedora Package Database. Reassigning to the new owner of this component.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '12'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 6 Bug Zapper 2010-12-04 00:42:02 UTC
Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
