Description Eric Hopper 2010-02-13 06:43:29 UTC
Hi there,

Would you mind updating protobuf to the latest version? The 2.3.0 version includes some major improvements in the speed of the Python bindings.

Comment 1 Silas Sewell 2010-04-22 05:28:31 UTC
Linked below is an updated SRPM with the following changes:
 - Version 2.3.0
 - Re-enabled Java support
 - Modified to work with epel 5 (no Java support)

Source:
http://github.com/silas/rpms/tree/master/protobuf/

SRPM:
http://github.com/downloads/silas/rpms/protobuf-2.3.0-1.fc14.src.rpm

I tested compiling this on Rawhide, Fedora 12 and EPEL 5.

Comment 2 Bug Zapper 2010-04-28 11:50:55 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 11 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 11. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '11'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 11's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 11 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 3 Conrad Meyer 2010-05-05 05:55:17 UTC
*Bump*.

Consider this the start of the non-responsive maintainer process (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageMaintainers/Policy/NonResponsiveMaintainers).

Comment 4 Lev Shamardin 2010-05-05 06:16:04 UTC
Sorry, was away from internet for some time. I'm glad if someone want so comaintain this package.

Comment 5 Conrad Meyer 2010-05-05 06:21:09 UTC
No worries -- I'll bump it to 2.3.0 now, if that's ok with you.

Comment 6 Lev Shamardin 2010-05-05 06:27:21 UTC
Thats just fine. I'm just finished reviewing specs by Silas Sewell, and everything looks good to me.

Comment 7 Conrad Meyer 2010-05-05 06:51:48 UTC
It's built in devel[0] -- I'll build it for F-13 and F-12 now and push to updates-testing.

WTF, it's a bit late for F13.
You will have to make sure all packages build against it i.e libcompizconfig before pushing it .

Let's tune down the drama factor a bit, ok? It's not going to break existing built packages, and updates-testing exists for a reason. This is how Fedora releases work -- we test updates before pushing them, but we do push feature updates.

Sorry if I was OTT but it has done so in the past :(

I have just checked libcompizconfig with the new protobuf package and there are no build issues.

Can you request buildroot overrides for the new protobuf versions in F12 and F13 so I can coordinate with you?

Comment 13 Conrad Meyer 2010-05-05 16:50:56 UTC
Sure -- https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/3705 .
