Description Gautam Ghare 2010-03-27 09:29:19 UTC
Description of problem:

The clock does not display weather info when enabled in preferences. This preference is being ignored only on x86_64 builds; and works as expected on i686.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

clock 2.29.92.1

How reproducible:

Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Right click on the clock; select Preferences
2. Check the show weather and show temperature boxes
3. Setup an appropriate location in the location tab

Actual results:

No display of weather

Expected results:

Weather icon and temperature displayed

Additional info:

This appears to be an issue only with 64bit builds; 32bit works as expected on the same version.

Comment 1 aaraodeo 2010-05-25 09:48:39 UTC
The same issue is observed in Fedora 12 64 bit build; 32 bit build works as expected.

Comment 2 aaraodeo 2010-05-29 19:40:33 UTC
Well i was testing Fedora 12 and 13 both on VMWare player and not on real machine. But i guess it should not matter. I think it is broken in 64 bit builds of fedora.

Comment 3 Srikanth Varadarajan 2010-06-04 19:10:57 UTC
I see the same issue with Fedora 13 - i686. I installed it from the Live CD recently.

Comment 4 Srikanth Varadarajan 2010-06-04 19:16:54 UTC
Never mind about my previous comment, as soon as I set the default location, the weather info is available in the gnome panel.

Comment 5 Steve Chapel 2010-06-28 23:51:03 UTC
The weather and temperature are displaying for me in Clock 2.30.0. It possibly started displaying after I added a second location and set it as the default location.

Comment 6 Steve Chapel 2010-06-29 02:29:33 UTC
This may be the same as https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=606046

Comment 7 aaraodeo 2010-11-15 19:44:50 UTC
Clock applet is now displaying weather info when enabled in preferences.
This worked in Fedora 14 x86_64 using Vmware 3.1.2 player on Windows 7 64 bit os.

This was not working in Fedora 13 x86_64 using Vmware 3.0 player on Windows xp prof 32 bit.

Comment 8 Gautam Ghare 2010-11-16 07:55:50 UTC
What version of clock applet is this fixed in?
It is still broken on 2.32.0.2 for x86_64 build

Comment 9 aaraodeo 2010-11-16 09:55:04 UTC
For me its worked in clock 2.32.0.2 for x86_64 build.
But it worked at my home where i have a direct internet connection.
It did not work at my work location where we have to use a http proxy for internet access. I guess weather update request cannot pass through a http proxy. Ideally it should if it a kind of http request and it must honour gnome proxy preferences.

Hi,
I have the same experience like 'aaraodeo' with clock-applet 2.32.0.2 in fc14.i686. Applet doesn't accept proxy setting in gnome-network-properties.
Please could you correct it? I didn't have this problem in F13.
Thnaks
JJ

Hi,
Is there any progress in this case?
Regards
JJ

Comment 12 Steve Chapel 2011-01-23 16:59:49 UTC
I have been using the Weather Report panel application to display the weather and temperature. It seems to update more reliably than the weather in Clock.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '13'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 14 Bug Zapper 2011-06-27 15:19:57 UTC
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
