Description of problem: BOINC does not compute tasks from World Community Grid on clean x86_64 systems ("clean" means, only x86_64 packages installed, no i686 packages). Instead it shows error messages like this: [error] App version has unsupported platform i686-pc-linux-gnu [error] No application found for task: i686-pc-linux-gnu 614 ; discarding After installing glibc.i686 boinc seems to work fine without any problems and computes World Community Grid tasks again very well. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Current BOINC version I am using is boinc-client-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.fc12.x86_64 from updates-testing repository. I'm facing this issue since a few weeks and I can remember older versions also to be affected. How reproducible: Completely reproducible. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Check that your system is x86_64 only, no i686 packages installed 2. Maybe get a World Community Grid account if you don't have one already 3. Attach the WCG project to your boinc-client via the boincmgr gui 4. Wait until boinc tries to compute some tasks, have an eye on the messages window in boincmgr 5. Wait until the error messages quoted above appear 6- You have it! Actual results: Above mentioned error messages are displayed. Expected results: BOINC computes the tasks from WCG without any problems. Additional info: I'm running a current F-12 installation with some updates from updates-testing repository, including boinc-client. If you need detailed information about package versions or anything else, feel free to let me know
I just checked this with BOINC upstream: WCG doesn't provide any native 64bit apps so you do have to install 32bit glibc, at least.
