Description Tarhon-Onu Victor 2002-02-11 11:17:04 EST
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20011126
Netscape6/6.2.1

Description of problem:
When changing static ip addresses for (virtual) interfaces the old ip addresses
still remain there after a /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart or
a ifdown ethX; ifup ethX.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Edit, say, your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file and change the
ip address, the netmask, broadcast, etc etc.
2. /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart
3. /sbin/ip add sh dev eth0

Actual Results: You will have both old address and new ip address on that
interface. This is realy nasty when you have systems with more than one physical
interface and you need to move ip addresses from one to another.

Additional info:

I think this can be easely fixed by modifying
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifdown, at line 89, from:

if [ "${REALDEVICE}" = "${DEVICE}" ]; then
  ip link set ${DEVICE} down
fi

to:

if [ "${REALDEVICE}" = "${DEVICE}" ]; then
  ip address flush dev ${DEVICE};
  ip link set ${DEVICE} down
fi
Comment 1 Bill Nottingham 2002-02-11 11:22:21 EST
Fixed in 6.40.1 and later.
Comment 2 Tarhon-Onu Victor 2002-02-11 11:34:05 EST
I forgot to mention that I tested with initscripts 6.40-1. It is not fixed in
this version, but it is fixed in 6.51-1 from the current rawhide. Thanks!
