Description Stephen So 2010-05-27 07:05:09 UTC
Description of problem:

It seems that some blue colors, such as that seen on the top bar of facebook or fedoraforum.org, aren't being reproduced accurately. They seem to appear more violet/purple than blue. This is noticeable when coming from using the Nvidia proprietary driver to nouveau. I've noticed this in Fedora 11 and 12 as well for two different nvidia cards (Quadro FX1500M and Geforce 9400M)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. When using nouveau, in a web browser, go to http://www.fedoraforum.org
2. Examine the blue logo and blue sections
3. Install the Nvidia proprietary driver
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2

Actual results:

The blue colors in nouveau appear to be more purple and violet than those in the Nvidia binary driver.

Expected results:

The blue colors should match.

If you compare the screenshots between nouveau and nvidia drivers, you'll see the blue color is different. The nvidia driver seems to reproduce a more faithful color (as verified in Windows) than nouveau.

How very strange. I don't actually see this issue on the 3 cards I've used so far today, and don't have much of an idea yet on how this would even happen.

I initially thought it could be a difference in how it was displayed on screen (so, different CLUT settings than nvidia), but that wouldn't effect a screenshot so there goes that idea.

Oh I worked out why this happens. I installed Google Chrome and noticed it didn't have the same problem. After a bit of detective work, I found out the culprit was that my firefox config had set the gfx.color_management.mode to 0. When I reset that back to default (2), it fixed it, ie. the blue colors are now proper. :)

Comment 8 Stephen So 2010-05-29 13:02:34 UTC
Correction: Before, it was set to 1, not 0.

Comment 9 Ben Skeggs 2010-06-02 01:45:19 UTC
So, not a bug?

Comment 10 Stephen So 2010-06-02 23:44:33 UTC
Hmm...depends on how you look at it I guess. On the nvidia binary driver, the color_management mode made no difference, which is probably normal behaviour, while on the nouveau driver, the blue colors were wrong. It happens in Thunderbird as well.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '13'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 12 Bug Zapper 2011-06-27 16:47:08 UTC
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
