3. Business Case
lsvpd provide VPD to many different consumers and for many different reasons. It is used by
ppc64-diag in the determination of root-cause of hardware or OS failure. It is used by IBM
Director to track hardware inventory and system usage information. Without lsvpd, Director is
unable to properly report diagnostics information or hardware failure, or provide specific repair
instructions for adapter replacement.
lsvpd-1.6.9 incorporates a major bug-fix over 1.6.7, dealing with firmware version output. Please
pull down this version, or newer, from the referenced repository.

This enhancement request was evaluated by the full Red Hat Enterprise Linux
team for inclusion in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux minor release. As a
result of this evaluation, Red Hat has tentatively approved inclusion of
this feature in the next Red Hat Enterprise Linux Update minor release.
While it is a goal to include this enhancement in the next minor release

code integration and successful Red Hat and partner testing.
Technical note added. If any revisions are required, please edit the "Technical Notes" field
accordingly. All revisions will be proofread by the Engineering Content Services team.
ChangeLog of bumped version 1.6.10 contains only two items:
- Changed default lsvpd output to use "Size" instead
of "SZ" for DIMM size output.
- Fixed location code discovery for storage devices. Previously, a loc-code was generated simply using the device node within the /proc/device-tree/devices file-system.
