Description Need Real Name 2002-04-17 19:16:16 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.2.1) Gecko/20010901

Description of problem:
Clean install (everything), start gnome - nautilus crashes.

after rm -fr /tmp/* , /tmp/.???* ~/.gconf* ~/.gnome* ~/.nautilus* ~/.X* ~/.ICE
~/.MCOP* and reboot the problem is gone

but it comes back after a few days/hours, have not been able to figure out what
it exactly is that makes it to crash.

Just now it works again but the behaviour is strange, sometimes it just
segfaults and sometimes i get also messages about some insertion failed, four or
five of them (don't find any of them from /var/log or elsewhere at the moment),
sorry but I don't remember them exactly.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.start gnome (either by init 5 or startx)
2.see nautilus die
3.

Actual Results: see description

Expected Results: no crash

Additional info:

The system as such (os, gnome, etc) is still fully usable, I have not seen
anything else that would not work (the desktop help, yes, but it would be part
of nautilus, right?)

Oh, forgot to mention:

When it happens again, maybe you could collect all the configuration directories
in a tar archive and attach them to the bug, so we can reproduce the problem?

Comment 3 Need Real Name 2002-04-19 18:01:41 UTC
Ok, it's down again. These are the messages I get when I try to start it
manually. I'll make a tarball of my .gnome* and some others, including an strace -f

[eteemuj@armada eteemuj]$ nautilus

Ahem,

It's working again. I removed yesterday three dirs from my homedir
.nautilus
.gnome/nautilus-scripts
.gconf/apps/nautilus

And today nautilus woke up clean.

Don't know if this helps you, hope so.

Cheers,

Down again, tried to clean the sam dir, no go. Not much for messages, just the
segfault:
[eteemuj@armada eteemuj]$ nautilus
Segmentation fault

[eteemuj@armada eteemuj]$ nautilus -c
Segmentation fault

I have come to the conclusion that I must have HW problems, I very strongly
suspect that my HD is defect.

Thank you for having patience with me:)
