Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description of problem:
The logout dialog always presents a "Switch User" option, even if the gconf key  /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_user_switching is set to true.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_user_switching key to true:
gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory -t bool -s /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_user_switching true
2. Log in, then select System -> Log Out [username]

  
Actual results:
A functional "Switch User" button still appears in the Log Out dialog

Expected results:
Users should not be able to perform user switching if it has been locked down via 
/desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_user_switching = true.

Additional info:
Setting the key to true does remove the Switch User option from gnome-screensaver, and also inhibits the gdm-user-switch-applet menu (even those functions which have nothing to do with user switching, such as "Personal Information"); it's just the logout dialog which fails to remove the option.

Since RHEL 6.2 External Beta has begun, and this bug remains
unresolved, it has been rejected as it is not proposed as
exception or blocker.

The patch for Gnome 2.2 from https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=598255 needs to be applied for this to work in RHEL 6.

This bug was fixed upstream in 2011.  It would be great if we could see the fix included in RHEL since this is affecting our RHEL 6 desktop deployment.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is in the Production 3 Phase. During the Production 3 Phase, Critical impact Security Advisories (RHSAs) and selected Urgent Priority Bug Fix Advisories (RHBAs) may be released as they become available.
