Created attachment 467459 [details] bug demonstration video Description of problem: For Clearlooks (or Fedora) theme gtk-auto-mnemonics is enabled. It has a side effect that if you select a non-editable text field and then press Alt (which shows mnemonics), the text selection is canceled. This way it is very hard to do a text selection in one application and paste it with middle mouse button into a second application, because you can't use Alt+Tab to switch those applications. On the other hand, when I use Crux theme (which has gtk-auto-mnemonics disabled), the text selection is not canceled by pressing Alt. This is a regression of behavior. See attached demonstration video. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gtk2-engines-2.20.1-2.fc14.x86_64 How reproducible: always Steps to Reproduce: 1. use Clearlooks (Fedora) theme, open gedit, open About tab 2. select some text 3. press Alt Actual results: selection is lost Expected results: selection is retained Additional info: This problem is only worsened by bug #628689 (gtk-auto-mnemonics cannot be disabled for Clearlooks).
According to mclasen's blogpost [1] adding Thomas Wood to CC. [1] http://blogs.fedoraproject.org/wp/mclasen/2010/03/24/mnemonics/
This is still a problem with gtk3 gedit - Alt key cancels X selection buffer. Selected text is unselected and you can't use middle click for pasting.
I've filed https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=671588 about the underlying issue.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 19 development cycle. Changing version to '19'. (As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 19 development cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 19 End Of Life. Thank you.)
