RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor now supports installation to a wider range of Secure Digital (SD) cards. Installation to this larger set of SD cards is in addition to the already fully supported use of locally attached SATA hard disk drives and fibre-channel-attached LUNs. RHEV-H continues to be fully supported for boot and installation from the following devices: USB thumbdrives, Secure Digital cards, and CDROM (both physical and virtual). It is also supported via PXE boot.

Red Hat Product Errata RHBA-2011:1783 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE rhev-hypervisor6 bug fix and enhancement update 2011-12-06 15:10:54 UTC

Description Perry Myers 2010-12-16 14:29:21 UTC
Description of problem:
Presently it is supported to install RHEVH onto USB flash disks and solid state hard disks. These are all treated as standard SCSI block devices via /dev/sdX device nodes.

Certain SD card readers are not exposed via standard drivers. Some may work in RHEL and some might need additional driver work to work properly.

We need additional testing from baseos kernel team on which devices we can support in RHEL and then testing from RHEVH team on deploying RHEVH on these supported SD devices.

Comment 16 Andrew Cathrow 2011-08-26 14:45:19 UTC
we should have the ability to install to : sd, local sata, fc lun and install from USB, SD, CDROM, PXE and ISO

Comment 19 Mike Burns 2011-09-12 19:02:56 UTC
I've looked at 2 different card readers that I have available beyond the one I used previously. Both are USB card readers like the ones you are using. I've successfully installed from USB stick to SD card and from SD card to USB stick using both these readers.

The issue you're reporting sounds a lot like one of the install issues that we were hitting in other bugs that have been fixed. Can you try again with the latest RHEV-H build?

Thanks

Mike

Comment 20 Mike Burns 2011-09-12 19:06:57 UTC
My testing was done using 6.2-0.16.2.el6 and an IOGEAR Model GUH287 reader and a Rosewill RCR-IC002 reader.
