Description ellson 2002-06-14 14:35:36 UTC
Description of Problem:
Specific problem, and a general problem with poor quality of error
messages that leave the user with absolutely no clue what might be wrong or
where to look next.

[root@beermat rawhide]# rpm -Uvh ggv-1.0.2-7.i386.rpm glade-0.6.4-4.i386.rpm
glade2-1.1.0-5.i386.rpm gnome-applets-2.0.0-5.i386.rpm
gnome-session-2.0.0-2.i386.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
   1:gnome-session ########################################### [ 20%]
   2:ggv ########################################### [ 40%]
   3:glade ########################################### [ 60%]
   4:glade2 ########################################### [ 80%]
   5:gnome-applets ########################################### [100%]
Could not create database. Aborting update.
[root@beermat rawhide]#

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
rpm-4.1-0.26

How Reproducible:
Seems to occur with multiple gnome packages. i.e. this may be a gnome
problem rather than an rpm problem

Steps to Reproduce:
(different example)
1. rpm -Uvh nautilus-1.1.19-4.i386.rpm
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
   1:nautilus ########################################### [100%]
Could not create database. Aborting update.

Expected Results:
No error, or a more useful error message.

Additional Information:

Comment 1 Jeff Johnson 2002-06-14 14:41:56 UTC
This isn't an rpm error. Off to nautilus ...

Comment 2 Havoc Pennington 2002-06-14 14:52:16 UTC
It's scrollkeeper. But fixed in rawhide.

Comment 3 ellson 2002-06-14 15:29:42 UTC
Confirming that the specific problem has gone with scrollkeeper-0.3.9-2

Now how about the more general problem of poor error messages? Why didn't
this error message indicate that it was scrollkeeper that was having the problem?
