Red Hat Product Errata RHBA-2011:1642 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE virt-manager bug fix and enhancement update 2011-12-06 00:50:37 UTC

Description Min Zhan 2011-01-25 05:46:48 UTC
Description of problem:
When set Automatically Open consoles as "For all domains", then
Execute #virt-manager --show-domain-performance=1054de4a-e4f3-9f6d-0f8b-79232fc8b3dd -c qemu:///system

Then virt-manager will be in running and the virtual machine console display.
But what we can see directly on the console is the *terminal*, not the
performance information of virtual details.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
# uname -a
Linux dhcp-65-85.nay.redhat.com 2.6.32-99.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Jan 14 10:46:00
EST 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

virt-manager-0.8.6-1.el6
kernel-2.6.32-99.el6.x86_64
qemu-kvm-0.12.1.2-2.129.el6.x86_64
libvirt-0.8.7-1.el6.x86_64
python-virtinst-0.500.5-1.el6

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In virt-manager, Edit-> Preference, Make VM Details Automatically Open consoles as "For all domains", Then quit virt-manager.

2. Make sure virt-manager is not running.Execute it in the terminal:
#virt-manager --show-domain-performance=1054de4a-e4f3-9f6d-0f8b-79232fc8b3dd -c
qemu:///system

Actual results:
What we can see directly on the console is the *terminal*, not the
performance information of virtual details.

Expected results:
Should display the performance information with dynamic grap of domain. The command line should have precedence.

Additional info:

This bug can be also reproduced in
virt-manager-0.8.4-8.el6.noarch
python-virtinst-0.500.3-7.el6.noarch

Since a regression bug 670735 about automatically open consoles in
virt-manager-0.8.6-1.el6, I tried with this older virt-manager (virt-manager-0.8.4-8.el6.noarch). If I set Automatically Open consoles as "For all new domains", then execute the command line, the result is as expected: the performance details will be display with dynamic grap.

Comment 1 Suzanne Logcher 2011-03-28 21:15:55 UTC
Since RHEL 6.1 External Beta has begun, and this bug remains
unresolved, it has been rejected as it is not proposed as an
exception or blocker.

Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to
propose this request, if appropriate and relevant, in the
next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Comment 2 Cole Robinson 2011-04-07 16:53:45 UTC
Not high priority, defer to 6.2

Comment 4 Cole Robinson 2011-07-14 21:07:19 UTC
Upstream dropped the 'open consoles' option and just uses sensible default behavior now, so this is 'fixed' upstream

Comment 5 Cole Robinson 2011-07-28 15:29:38 UTC
Fixed in virt-manager-0.9.0-2.el6

Comment 7 zhe peng 2011-08-05 07:03:59 UTC
this bug can reproduce with:virt-manager-0.8.6-4.el6

verified with:
virt-manager-0.9.0-5.el6
python-virtinst-0.600.0-2.el6
libvirt-0.9.4-1.el6
qemu-kvm-0.12.1.2-2.172

step:
1. In virt-manager, Edit-> Preference->VM Details
the "Automatically open consoles" removed.
2. Make sure virt-manager is not running.Execute it in the terminal:
#virt-manager --show-domain-performance=1054de4a-e4f3-9f6d-0f8b-79232fc8b3dd -c
qemu:///system (1054de4a-e4f3-9f6d-0f8b-79232fc8b3dd is the uuid of one guest)
the guest console opened and switch to performance window automatically.
the bug fixed.
Verification passed.
