Description of problem: issue the command:aplay a.wav,an error was shown: ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:864:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave snd_pcm_open: Device or resource busy Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): aplay-1.0.23-3 How reproducible: with root,issue command:aplay a.wav Steps to Reproduce: 1.su root 2.issue command:aplay a.wav 3. Actual results: an error was shown:ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:864:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave snd_pcm_open: Device or resource busy Expected results: aplay can sound well, correct the error Additional info: solution: install alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.21-2.fc11.i586.rpm, then the error gone
Send output from 'aplay -v' for user priviledges without alsa-plugins-pulseaudio installed. Also, try to determine the process using the audio device 'fuser /dev/snd/*' and assign process numbers to process names with 'ps ax' when you trying to play sounds as root.
