Description of problem: I've just bought an ipod and tried to connect it and copy some music to it, but instead of being recognised as an ipod it is recognised as an MPT device, so I can't transfer files to it Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): rhythmbox-0.12.8-4.fc13.x86_64 libgpod-0.8.0-3.fc13.x86_64 usbmuxd-1.0.6-1.fc13.x86_64 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. connect ipod 2. start rhythmbox 3. choose File->Scan Removable Media Actual results: ipod appears on the menu, but when it's selected the top toolbar has an "Eject MTP-device" icon, and attempting to transfer files gives this error for each file: Unable to send file to MTP device: PTP Layer error 02ff: LIBMTP_Send_File_From_File_Descriptor(): Could not send object. Expected results: ipod is correctly mounted and accessible and files can be transferred to it Additional info: ipod model is touch 3G 32GB
libmtp-1.0.3-2.fc13.x86_64
more info: I'm using KDE. when I plug the ipod in the device notifier only shows me a camera device called "USB Imaging Interface" - the ipod is not shown as a storage device and is not mounted
I think the problem is that my ipod isn't being mounted - gtkpod can't find it, but for some reason rhythmbox does find it, but incorrectly N.B. as soon as I plugged it in and started rhythmbox I got a gvfs crash, reproted as PR 658948 has that bricked this brand new ipod?!
well after plugging the ipod into a Mac running iTunes it seems to be working ok. It would be helpful if the Fedora release notes which talk about improved ipod support mentioned that it's not possible to do anything with some models until initializing them with iTunes - so it's not possible to use them *only* with Linux. However, now when I choose "Scan removable media" in rhythmbox it doesn't notice the ipod at all, and so I can't even reproduce the MTP error that I reported in this PR So it seems that all the time I spent tracking down an older 3G ipod touch that should work with Linux was wasted, because I still can't use it, and need a proprietary OS and iTunes ... exactly what I hoped to avoid. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to use this ipod with Fedora?
(In reply to comment #3) > N.B. as soon as I plugged it in and started rhythmbox I got a gvfs crash, > reproted as PR 658948 should read "reported as Bug 658948"
This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '13'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
