Description Raphael Groner 2011-02-01 19:10:40 UTC
Description of problem:
Problems to interrupt screen saver in VirtualBox. I guess an issue with VirtualBox' ACPI to pass keystrokes or mouse events immediately to screensaver applications and unlock screen then.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
XFCE Live (nightly)

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. wait some time to get screensaver becoming active
2.
3.

Actual results:
Locked virtual machine. It is often only possible to get it back with "reset machine" command in VirtualBox menu.

Expected results:
Screensaver disabled, at least if run in VirtualBox.

Additional info:
Only tested with XFCE Spin.

NOTE: we shouldn't be running or starting or using gnome-screensaver in Xfce (IMHO), it should be xscreensaver only.

Also, we should probibly disable it on live media until after install.

Yeah, it is good to have a screensaver on the live media as well, but it should be disabled by default, so the user could enable it if liked. Screensavers are good for demonstration purpose.

Was the window focused? You need to click to focus if the vbox guest additions are not installed. If this doesn't work correctly, it is a vbox problem.

When you file a bug against the livecd, please provide a date of the composal. And if you file a bug against gnome-screensaver, provide the output of 'rpm -q gnome-screensaver'. You would have noticed that gnome-screensaver is not installed on the Xfce livecd.

It was already in the ks, but didn't really work. We only disabled locking but not the screensaver. Fixed in http://git.fedorahosted.org/git?p=spin-kickstarts.git;a=commit;h=e81373e7aca37fce1913a34a2363305be7ce0c43
