Description Joachim Frieben 2011-02-08 10:59:15 UTC
Description of problem:
For the default gtk3 settings, text colors of button and menu labels etc. is some hue of grey which exhibits a low contrast with respect to the background color of the standard Adwaita theme whereas gtk2 based applications are using a darker font color showing a normal contrast.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-themes-standard-2.91.8-3.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch a gtk3 based application while theme Adwaita is active.

Actual results:
Contrast of text decorating buttons or menu items etc. is low.

Expected results:
Contrast of text decorating buttons or menu items etc. is normal.

Additional info:
Normal contrast and a good readability can be restored by setting

  @define-color text_color #000000 ; /* #2e3436;*/
  @define-color fg_color #000000 ; /* #2e3436; */

in file /usr/share/themes/Adwaita/gtk-3.0/gtk.css. Moreover, these color codes correspond to those of gtk2 based applications running simultaneosuly which ensures a more consistent visual user experience.

Comment 1 Joachim Frieben 2011-03-10 09:51:27 UTC
As of gnome-themes-standard-2.91.91-1.fc15, applications based upon gtk2 and gtk3 look consistent as far as the desktop font is concerned. However, the shade of grey used as foreground colour diminishes contrast leading to a "dull" appearance as a user on fedora-test list complained:

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 15:39:26 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
