Description of problem:
When running boinc_client a buffer overflow is detected and the program is terminated.

Error message and backtrace (attached)

Expected results:
Program should start correctly

Additional info:
I'm unable to test if the error appears when run as non-root due to Bug 678749.

This was marked as a duplicate of bug 678749, marked NOTABUG. Does this mean that this report is also considered NOTABUG? Surely a buffer overflow is something that should be handled, even if the program is started incorrectly. I think that instead of a buffer overflow and a backtrace an informative error message should be displayed.
