Garbled screen when hitting esc during the blue Fedora logo loading screen (1008.48 KB, image/jpeg)

Description info@kobaltwit.be 2011-02-22 20:45:09 UTC
Description of problem:
When I start from the liveCD for the nouveau test day, the system boots, but I get a garbled display. I'll attach some images to show you what I mean exactly.

The 10 second delay screen works fine. If I hit any key, I get the boot menu, which is also fine. When I let the boot continue, I get a garbled screen for a short while, after that I get the blue screen with the loading fedora logo. This screen works fine. If I hit esc while the fedora logo is loading, I get to the garbled screen again, but it has now been reduced to a quarter of my 24" widescreen display.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Sorry, can't see that now. I had to reboot in Fedora 14 to report this. It is the version that comes by default on the Nouveau test day live image.

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot from a live CD created from the Nouveau test day live image (2011-02-22)
2. Observe the short display of the garbled screen during the boot sequence
3. Hit the esc key to see the garbled screen in quarter size while the fedora logo is loading.

This is what my screen looks like just before the blue screen with the growing Fedora logo appears.

Garbled screen when hitting esc during the blue Fedora logo loading screen

This is what my screen looks like when hitting esc while the blue screen with the loading fedora logo is active. Note that there is now a nouveau error message present as well.

That's rather peculiar, if the fedora logo screen works correctly. You didn't mention anything about X, is that garbled too?

Comment 4 info@kobaltwit.be 2011-02-23 09:43:46 UTC
No, X looks fine. The live CD log me into the fallback gnome desktop though, not the gnome shell. I made a separate bug report for that.

Comment 5 Ben Skeggs 2011-02-23 22:17:52 UTC
Okay. Can you attach /var/log/messages and /var/log/Xorg.0.log please.

Comment 6 info@kobaltwit.be 2011-02-23 22:27:20 UTC
Those would be the same ones as I attached to bug 679564 on your request. Do you prefer I add them again to this bug, or is a link like this ok ?

Comment 7 Ben Skeggs 2011-02-23 22:35:06 UTC
Ah thanks, the link is fine :)

Comment 8 Matěj Cepl 2011-03-05 20:26:09 UTC
Just for sake of completness:
Xorg.0.log is the attachment 480397 [details]
/var/log/messages is the attachment 480398 [details]

I have run new tests for bug 679564. The garbled screens are still there with the live image from last week's Gnome 3 test day [1] live image. I have attached new messages and Xorg.0.log files to that bug.
The new references are:
Xorg.0.log: attachment 486191 [details]
/var/log/messages: attachment 486189 [details]

Comment 10 Ben Skeggs 2011-03-21 00:28:08 UTC
Do you still see the garbled display with nouveau.nofbaccel=1 in your boot options?

Comment 11 info@kobaltwit.be 2011-12-24 10:02:07 UTC
This bug was from the pre-F15 tests. I'm now running F16 stable and this doesn't show a garbled display anymore (no idea about a livecd edition, I haven't tested that for F16).

So I assume the bug has been fixed in the meantime. I'll close the bug. If that's not ok, feel free to reopen.
