Description Anthony Spinillo 2002-07-05 01:48:26 UTC
Description of Problem:
Using latest Limbo Beta. DMA is not enabled on new motherboard. Motherboard is
an Intel D845GBVL with 845G chipset. I am also not able to enable DMA with
hdparm -d /dev/hda.

This is with the stock Limbo Kernel 2.4.18-5.58. When using Kernel
2.4.19-pre10-ac2 on Redhat 7.3 on the same box DMA/IDE is configured correctly.

When I installed the motherboard last month, I reported the problem to
linux-kernel. Andre hedrick was quick to put out a patch that made it into
2.4.19pre10-ac2.

Here is a snippet from dmesg
Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver Revision: 6.31
ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx
PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device f9, VID=8086, DID=24cb
PCI: Device 00:1f.1 not available because of resource collisions
PCI_IDE: (ide_setup_pci_device:) Could not enable device.

I have pasted my DMESG and lspci output below.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks!

Tony

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Limbo Public Beta

How Reproducible:
Happens when booting all the time

Steps to Reproduce:

1.Turn on machine
2.
3.

Actual Results:
No IDE DMA

Expected Results:
DMA enabled on 845G chipset

Comment 1 Arjan van de Ven 2002-07-05 09:55:46 UTC
I think I know what this is, and planned to fix that this afternoon... I'll let
you know when it's done.

Comment 2 Arjan van de Ven 2002-07-08 19:44:16 UTC
does the 2.4.18-5.63 kernel (tomorrow in rawhide) fix this?

Comment 3 Anthony Spinillo 2002-07-08 21:43:18 UTC
I pulled 2.4.18-5.62 from Rawhide today. No resource collision
message! Hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc enabled dma.

I will grab -63 tomorrow and test.
Thanks!
