Description of problem:
After updating to net-snmp-5.1.2-20.el4.i386, Nagios frequently complained (4-10 times per day) that my system was unreachable and Cacti graphs showed a lot of gaps.  Nagios and Cacti reporting returned to normal after downgrading to net-snmp-5.1.2-20.el4.i386

How reproducible:
This is an intermittent problem after upgrading to net-snmp-5.1.2-20.el4.i386.


Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upgrade to net-snmp-5.1.2-20.el4.i386.
2. Attempt to monitor the system using Nagios or Cacti.

Actual results:
Nagios 2.12 will occasionally report that the system is in an "unknown" state.  Cacti graphs will show gaps where no response was received from snmpd.

Expected results:
No complaints from Nagios; no gaps in Cacti graphs.

SELinux status - enabled, permissive
The load on this system as reported by uptime (and Cacti) is normally less than 0.2; it might exceed 1 briefly once or twice daily, like during backups.

The latest packages, net-snmp-5.1.2-20.el4.i386 and net-snmp-libs-5.1.2-20.el4.i386, were in place from 18-23 February.  The downgraded packages have been in place since 23 February and you can see a considerable improvement.

Cacti graph: eth0 traffic

This graph shows that network traffic was very light.  The peaks were caused by backups.  The load average graph is also light during the same period.
