patch that solves the issue described.

Description of problem:

The newest version of upstream alsa-tools (1.0.24.1) has a bug in the hdspmixer code. Hdspmixer fails to recognize older Hammerfall cards with their Digiface or Multiface interface boxes (and others like the 9652).

Hdspmixer is required to initialize the internal mixer of the RME soundcards so that without a functioning hdspmixer the card is bricked for all practical purposes (ie: everything seems to work but there is no sound coming from the soundcard as all the mixer crosspoints default to off).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

1.0.24.1-1.fc14

How reproducible:

Always (with the proper soundcard)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. try to start hdspmixer
2. complains about not finding a compatible soundcard (not true, the card is there)

Actual results:

hdspmixer does not start.

Expected results:

hdspmixer starts and initializes the internal mixer of the card.

Additional info:

The issue is known upstream and a patch was posted to alsa-devel (I'm attaching it to this bug report). I have created a temporary package in Planet CCRMA with this patch and it solves the problem - otherwise all of these high end cards are not useful at all.

According to http://alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Changes_v1.0.24_v1.0.25 there were a bunch of changes in v1.0.25 relating to RME cards. Can you confirm if this is fixed in the latest version of alsa-tools?

Hi and sorry for the delay. I tested one of our workstations yesterday and hdspmixer did run fine with alsa-tools 1.0.25. This was Fedora 17 with an RME PCI card and a Digiface I/O box. I have not tested yet with other hardware.

OK, going to close as fixed - please re-open if it's still an issue. (although it really needs to be fixed in an ALSA release even then)
