The printer was a network one, connected to a server (Debian) via CUPS. The printer was low on color ink (jhence why I switched printout mode). Retrying the operation went fine, and I was able to print. How to reproduce ----- 1. Downloaded a PDF file from GMail 2. Double clicked on it in the downloads window 3. Selected "File → Print" from evince 4. Changed several parameters (Page format from "US Letter" to "A4" and "Printout mode" from "Normal" to "Normal grayscale" 4. Evince crashed
