Description of problem: Browsing email with foxfire 4.0b12-pre, the mouse pointer changed to something that's about 1" long and is composed of a line of dots. I've attached a screenshot. The mouse was normal until it switched mysteriously Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): I'm up to date for FC 14 How reproducible: Unknown but has appeared before, VERY randomly. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Unknown 2. 3. Actual results: see description Expected results: see description Additional info: I would suspect that there's a storage overlay at work here. I'm including a startx log and two Xorg.0.* log files. I'm also getting core files from kde4, /usr/libexec/kde4/kwin_opengl_test as well as back traces (in the logs) from akondaiserver AND the gdb where command output into the output of the script command. There are missing symbols here even though I ran debuginfo-install xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.9.4-1.fc14.i686.

Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue. This actually looks like a kernel issue, so we need information which is not in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Please add drm.debug=0x04 to the kernel command line, restart computer, reproduce the issue, and attach * your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available), * output of the dmesg command (after the reproduction of the issue and before reboot), and * system log (/var/log/messages) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link above. We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information. Thanks in advance.
I will do this tonight and post my results. The graphics card is a "Fire GL" I think, I'll provide the lspci output and the other outputs you've requested. Please note that the problem does not always occur. I'll set the kernel parameter and hope it fails again. THANKS for your help, George...
Matej, I have implemented the kernel line change but have not seen the problem since. I'll leave this in and get you more info when/if the problem happens again. This was the second time I saw the problem. Thanks for your help! Regards, George...
Certainly. Setting this bug to needinfo so it is not lost.
Matej, The problem appeared last night or maybe the night before. I happened to be in a firefox browser. I started killing various apps and the first was the browser. The cursor went back to normal! I gathered the log I have from starting x, the Xorg.0* files and /var/log/messages. Do you want to see them? I am still running with nomodeset drm.debug=0x04 present. Are there other files you need to see? George...
Created attachment 483942 [details] tar.gz file of files relating to this bug. I goofed. Only got the startx.log file and the two Xorg.0* files. Do you need others?
Hi, I'm way beyond this version of Firefox and have not seen the problem since. I am still running FC 14 and their latest kernel. The debug info is still in my "kernel" line in the grub.conf file. We can leave this one open or just close it out and I'll re-open if the problem ever appears again. Thanks for your time spent on this bug. Regards, George...
Let's close it for now, and please feel free to reopen with additional information if it happens again. Thank you for helping to make Fedora awesome!
Created attachment 524445 [details] dmesg output after last occurrence. I've been hitting this for a while now on F15. It seems like when I switch virtual desktops or move the mouse between my two displays that the mouse cursor will turn into this stack of the top portion of the cursor image. It usually goes away after a while, but it's very hard to see the I-beam cursor when this is happening. I've attached the dmesg output with drm.debug=0x04. There isn't anything related to this in /var/log/messages. I'm not using an xorg.conf. Let me know if there is any other information I should provide. I hit this a couple times a day.
I opened another X11 bug a few days ago and got a reply which I don't understand. Here's the bug url. I don't understand what Gerome is saying. I posted a further query but have received no response yet. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=746309 I have not seen this problem in a long time and was going to suggest that it's gone away but I see that it has not... yet... Let me know if you need anything. I'm STILL on FC 14 (latest). Regards, George...

I'm STILL on FC 14 (latest). See my reply on the other bug. Closing this one, as in my opinion this has nothing to do with firefox, and we can deal just with the other bug. If you have some firm opinion why this bug should be reopened, please, do so with the additional information.
Additional information was provided in comment #13 and associated attachment. I am not using vga=X.
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
