Hi, I am using CentOS 5.5 64 bit. My work requires me to have a lot of postscript files. Hence i have elaborate file and directory names for easy identification. For example --- AP-1_Jul-Ctrl-noEqSA_bg25C_precip,U250-150_xy.ps. I am unable to open them using ghostscript/evince. I get a blank evince screen with loading written on it. The same file named as 1.ps opens in a jiffy. As of now evince quickly opens pdf files with long names. But i would not like to convert ps to pdf. ]$ rpm -q evince kdegraphics evince-0.6.0-13.el5 kdegraphics-3.5.4-17.el5_5.1 Additional info: I had reported this issue in the CentOS forum from where i was directed here. This is the thread: https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30339&forum=38
If you run gs from the command line, does that take a long time? Or is it just when using evince?
Also please provide the output of 'rpm -q ghostscript'.

The problem seems to have disappeared and i can open these long filenames from the commandline using gs and evince. But at times evince does not open ps files (but can open pdf files) when some other pdf/ps files are open. I have to close all open files and then evince manages to open the file. kpdf has no such problem. This problem was there before as well and is quite random. (In reply to comment #2) > Also please provide the output of 'rpm -q ghostscript'. ]$ rpm -qa ghostscript* ghostscript-fonts-5.50-13.1.1 ghostscript-8.70-6.el5
OK, closing then if it works now.
