Gnome-shell version == 2.91.91-1.fc15
I have the same issue. gnome-shell works fine on my Thinkpad T510 without external monitors attached. If I attach them, it uses fallback mode. Here is the lspci output for my graphics card: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device 215a Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx+ Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx- Latency: 0 Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 41 Region 0: Memory at f2000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M] Region 2: Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] Region 4: I/O ports at 1800 [size=8] Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] Capabilities: [90] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit- Address: fee0c00c Data: 4169 Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2 Flags: PMEClk- DSI+ D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-) Status: D0 NoSoftRst- PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- Capabilities: [a4] PCI Advanced Features AFCap: TP+ FLR+ AFCtrl: FLR- AFStatus: TP- Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915
Some additional information. I can run with two screens just fine, as long as one is my laptop monitor. If I try to run with two external monitors on my laptop, I end up in fallback mode. If I try to plugin my second external screen and enable it once gnome-shell is running, everything asplodes (I have to reboot via a vt) When I run xdpyinfo it shows the dimensions of screen 0 as being the width of both of my external monitors. There is no noticable gap when I move the mouse. The width is less than 4096.
Same here on T60 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo ThinkPad T60/R60 series Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16 Memory at ee100000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K] I/O ports at 1800 [size=8] Memory at d0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] Memory at ee200000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256K] Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: intelfb, i915
This also happens on my Lenovo T510. I am using the external dock with a DVI and a DisplayPort monitor connected, and no matter which monitors I have enabled, Gnome will only work in fallback mode. However, my current work-around is to undock the laptop, logout, login and Gnome-shell works fine. I can then dock the laptop, and the external displays work fine with Gnome-shell. I do this without entering suspend mode, everything hot-docks just fine. Using this work-around, I can use both a 30" display via DisplayPort and a 27" display over DVI with Gnome-shell without issue. Running "gnome-shell --replace" will also work if fallback mode comes up, intead of having to login while undocked.
Has anyone else noticed that along with this problem clicking on anything in overview mode doesn't work? Or is this a completely different bug. I only have this problem with I attach an external monitor.
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
