This appears to be a problem with gnome-python2. Reassigning.
The problem is that gnome-python2-desktop hasn't been rebuilt for F15. The package in the F15 repository is still the F14 version; thus the broken dependencies. I made an attempt to build gnome-python2-desktop for F15, and as I expected, it failed. The immediate failure was that gnome-python2-desktop was looking for libpanelapplet-2.0.pc to configure applet support, but the version of gnome-panel-devel currently in F15 (2.91.92) provides libpanelapplet-4.0.pc. However, I think the real problem here is that gnome-python2-desktop hasn't been ported to GNOME 3 yet. And discussion on the desktop mailing list would seem to confirm that: http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/desktop/2011-March/006992.html I would argue that proper panel support in GNOME 3 fallback mode is a blocker for F15.
In the meantime, could hamster be built without its applet functionality and dependencies? As I said, it is designed to be able to run as a standalone app, and I would be fine with having that as a workaround until it properly integrates with gnome-shell.
You can try out the hamster-applet build here (without applet support and evolution support): http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=3043415
The package build you mentionned, without applet support, seems to work fine for me here. Woohoo!
Adjusting summary as this affects other things too. 'yum groupinstall "Sugar Desktop Environment"' fails with broken deps in gnome-python2-evince . Colin Walters just rebuilt gnome-python2-desktop for f15, but the version on his build is too old: gnome-python2-desktop-2.31.1-5.fc15 so it can't supersede the 2.32.0-1.fc14 build that's in the f15 repos already (and even if it could, it would be bad for f14->f15 upgrades). Please build it again with a later version. thanks! -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers
Latest f14 build is gnome-python2-desktop-2.32.0-3.fc14 , so it would be best to take that build, make the change to disable applets, and build 2.32.0-4.fc15 . -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers

After preupgrade'ing from f14 to f15, gnome-python2-applet is still installed, but yum distro-sync / yum check complain about missing dependency libpanel-applet-2.so.0
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
