Edit : There's NO fallback to the login screen, it was an automatic reboot !
Edit 2 : F15 patched 18-03-2011 (full) x86-32

Comment 2 Laurent V 2011-03-19 13:25:30 UTC
Edit 3 : gnome-shell freeze with kmod-nvidia 270.30 too

Don't know if its the same problem with some improvement but I get a hang as well on my nvidia graphics card *sometimes* when I hit the top-level corner with my mouse. However other TTYs work fine after the hang.

I had a similar freeze when attempting to return from the lock screen using
gnome-shell 3.0.2-1.fc15 (x86_64) with Mobility Radeon HD 4200, but I just experienced the same freeze simply by mousing over "Activities". Particularly nasty because <ctrl-alt-backspace> just goes to a blank terminal screen where typing text has no effect, and <ctrl-alt-delete> gives back a bunch of errors about dev, block numbers... I think I remember something like "audit failed auto_pid=1044". I had to power down the machine.

using: Intel cpu x86_64 nvidia geforce 7300
first i did a upgrade from fedora 14 to 15 - after login FREEZES completely.
then i try a fresh install - work bad, then i try to install nvidia- after login FREEZES completely.
after hours; i try to install xfce, it work, instaling nvidia driver work, instaling compiz - the hell break lose...
after hours; i try to install LXDE it work = ugly, instaling nvidia driver work, instaling compiz - the hell break lose...

i give up on gnome-shell its for kids and nearly arrived to linux, i fell sad that the gnome evolution didnt consider a gnome classic (for servers and developers). i went back to fedora 14.

in my working laptop i have fedora 13: virtualbox with several windows, IBM Lotus notes, IBM RAD, Oracle JDeveloper, NetBeans, several servers, MySQL, IBM DB2 and all works with compiz - i think i'am going to lose all this...

Gnome 3 is wrong!

One additional comment... I'm on a laptop, and when the bug happens I can hear my fan immediately jump to its highest setting.

One more comment: I originally upgraded from Fedora 14 to 15, and this problem was such a pain that I just did a clean install of F15. Since then it has not happened again.
