Description sd.domrep 2011-03-19 21:13:18 UTC
Description of problem:

After update to 2.6.38-1.fc15.i686.PAE boot process freezes at beginning for about 20 sec. Then goes as normal.
There is no any error messages.

But when I log into on level 3 after press enter for enter login name I got:
[ 36.027301] type=1307 audit(1300568156.306:11222): cwd="/"
[ 36.027449] type=1302 audit(1300568156.306:11222): item=0 name="/proc/self/fd" inode=11071 dev=00:03 mode=040500 ouid=0 ogid=0 rdev=00:00 obj=system_u:system_r:consolekit_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023

Previous kernel did not have this behavior.

Can you attach the contents of /var/log/dmesg after booting the system?

Comment 3 sd.domrep 2011-03-21 08:55:59 UTC
I want to add, that immediately after grub jumps to fedora I have on the screen:
root (hd0,4)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.38-1.fc15.i686.PAE ro root=/dev/mapper/F14_99-lv_root edd=off 3
       [Linux-bzImage, setup=0x4000, size=0x3acdb0]
initrd /initramfs-2.6.38-1.fc15.i686.PAE.img

then freeze goes for about 20 sec, and then I got new line:
       [Linux-initrd @ 0x372f8000, 0xcf750a bytes]

Thank you.
and then boot goes as usual.

I do not have this:
[ 36.027301] type=1307 audit(1300568156.306:11222): cwd="/"
[ 36.027449] type=1302 audit(1300568156.306:11222): item=0
name="/proc/self/fd" inode=11071 dev=00:03 mode=040500 ouid=0 ogid=0 rdev=00:00
obj=system_u:system_r:consolekit_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023

any more.

Looks like GRUB is stalling for 20 seconds?

Comment 5 sd.domrep 2011-03-22 08:29:09 UTC
I had kernel-2.6.38-0.rc8.git0.1.fc15 before and there was not any freezing. It starts after I updated to 2.6.38-1.fc15.

I saw kernel-2.6.38-3.fc15 on koji and when it will be in repo I update and tell you how things go.

Comment 6 sd.domrep 2011-03-25 15:23:14 UTC
So, I installed 2.6.38.1-6 and can confirm that 20 sec. freeze still exists after grub reads initrd img.

Also I would like to ask is there anything special in grub.conf for 2.6.38 in compare with previous kernels, because grub-1 config on my system is on different linux and I by my self change the kernel numbers there. It was not created by fedora installation. My fedora 15 boot on extended partition and it has lvm.
I have only in it:
title Fedora 15 (2.6.38.1-6.fc15)
	root (hd0,4)
	kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.38.1-6.fc15.i686.PAE ro root=/dev/mapper/F14_99-lv_root edd=off lpj=2000000 3 i915.powersave=0
	initrd /initramfs-2.6.38.1-6.fc15.i686.PAE.img

Thanks you

Problem solved.

There is no any freezes. This bug may be closed.
Thank you.

Comment 9 sd.domrep 2011-04-13 18:26:42 UTC
Sorry.

Have to continue.

Kernel 2.6.38.2-14.fc15.i686.PAE #1 SMP freezes at boot beginning for about 20 sec.

Comment 10 sd.domrep 2011-04-15 17:03:38 UTC

Has the same halt (~15 sec) after grub jumps to initrd /initramfs.

Thanks.

Comment 11 sd.domrep 2011-04-20 07:53:02 UTC
Dear All.

I checked 2.6.38.3-17.fc15 - it has the same 15-20 sec halt at beginning.

Kernel 2.6.38.2-9.fc15 doesn't have any - it boots as usual.

Kernel 2.6.38.3-18.fc15.i686.PAE #1 SMP Fri Apr 22 13:30:58 UTC 2011
