Description reubendb 2011-03-28 04:16:19 UTC
Description of problem:

I wanted to install F15-alpha for testing by resizing one of the partitions to install on. This is my current partition as shown by fdisk:
# fdisk -l /dev/sda

Disk /dev/sda: 320.1 GB, 320072933376 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x97646c29

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 5100 40960000 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 5100 17848 102400000 83 Linux
/dev/sda3 17848 18868 8192000 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda4 18869 38913 161011462+ 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 18869 38913 161010688 83 Linux

"df" shows that /dev/sda5 is not full:

# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 39G 32G 4.9G 87% /
tmpfs 2.0G 88K 2.0G 1% /dev/shm
/dev/mapper/luks-72c56a63-ffca-47b5-a1ba-5abdbc68649c
                       97G 77G 15G 84% /home
/dev/sda5 152G 123G 21G 86% /scratch

With the installer I selected "create custom layout" on the step to specify the storage to install, but I was unable to shrink the /dev/sda5. In fact, the dialog box allow me to increase the size, but not to reduce the size of /dev/sda5.

I then redid the install, this time trying it with the "shrink partitions to create free space" option. Same problem.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
F-15 alpha

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to install with anaconda
2. select to use custom layout or "shrink partition" and select a partition to shrink / resize
3.

Actual results:
Dialog box cannot reduce partition size, but allow to increase it. The "down arrow" button to reduce the size is greyed out.

Expected results:
Dialog box allow to reduce the partition size, and partition is shrunk.

I am sorry for the delay; I just got a chance to try the install again and grab the requested log files. They are now attached.

Does this still happen with F17?

Comment 7 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 14:49:03 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
