Description Tim Waugh 2011-03-29 10:09:26 UTC
Description of problem:
Following on from bug #691701, with a local printer connected but no queue set up for it, I tried adding one explicitly, which failed silently.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
control-center-2.91.93-1.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1.With printer connected and switched on, select System Settings from top-right corner of GNOME Shell
2.Click Printers, and Unlock
3.Click Add New Printer
4.A dialog is displayed and "Stylus-D78" is shown and already selected
5.Click Add

Actual results:
A gnome-packagekit dialog is briefly seen
The "Add a New Printer" dialog closes
No printer is shown in the list.

Expected results:
Should end up with a printer shown in the list.

Additional info:
May have the same root cause as bug #691701.

"lpinfo -l -v" output contains:

Device: uri = usb://EPSON/Stylus%20D78
        class = direct
        info = EPSON Stylus D78
        make-and-model = EPSON Stylus D78
        device-id = MFG:EPSON;CMD:ESCPL2,BDC,D4,D4PX;MDL:Stylus
D78;CLS:PRINTER;DES:EPSON Stylus D78;
        location =

Comment 1 Francesco Tapparo 2011-05-08 08:40:28 UTC
I can confirm this bug with my Epson Stylus Office BX305F. I'll add that I managed to install the printer by installing directly by the cups web interface the printer BX300, so we can conclude that at least in my system the local software really could support the printer.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-06 20:08:19 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
