Description of problem: insert media into LS-120 and it is not mounted, read, or any other thing Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible:100% Steps to Reproduce: 1.insert formatted super floppy 2. 3. Actual results: Light will come on for a while, but drive not spin. Double click on device in "My Computer" will cause same thing Expected results: should prompt to auto-mount under /media/disk or something like that Additional info: This drive with this media works when booting KUbuntu 10.10
I don't know the component involved, but this is not disktype at all. disktype as nothing to do with this. If you can know the driver or the userland application involved in the process that would help to fund the right component. Please open another bug, and request help on a forum, if you cannot find the right component yourself.

Given I don't hack the kernel, I have no idea what "module" to flag. The description for disktype which comes up when you click on it certainly fits. I have no idea where the Fedora forums are and given the number of massive and critical bugs I'm finding with this distro I don't think I'm going looking for it. Until you can prove that disktype isn't hanging trying to determine the "type" of a 120Meg FAT formatted super floppy it stays here. The OS correctly identifies it as a Compaq LS-120 disk drive connected via IDE. This is either you or whatever module this distro tags for "device notifier". I'm leaning towards you because it does light up and spin a bit before completely dying. This indicates disktype isn't capable of correctly identifying the SuperFloppy drive capabilities or media size.
Hi Roland, Thanks for reporting this problem. > Given I don't hack the kernel, I have no idea what "module" to flag. The > description for disktype which comes up when you click on it certainly fits. I can guarantee that disktype isn't involved. disktype is a user application, not involved in detecting and mounting disks. > I have no idea where the Fedora forums are The forums are here: http://www.fedoraforum.org/ > and given the number of massive and > critical bugs I'm finding with this distro I don't think I'm going looking for > it. Sorry to hear you are having problems. Posting a message on the forums describing your problems is also much more likely to result in you getting an answer. Bugs filed here in Bugzilla are typically just seen by the maintainers of the package you file the bug against - in this case, Nicolas and myself. > Until you can prove that disktype isn't hanging trying to determine the > "type" of a 120Meg FAT formatted super floppy it stays here. Actually, do you have disktype installed at all? What do you see if you type: rpm -q disktype
Due to this bug and the complete lack of response I had to abandon all RedHat products filing a report with both my Fortune 30 and Fortune 50 clients telling them to do the same. They are now installing OpenSuSE everywhere. OpenSuSE doesn't have this bug.
