Description Peter Gückel 2011-04-03 04:02:26 UTC
Description of problem:
Playing an audio file in mp3 format (I don't know about other formats, as I have no files in other formats) causes screeching and static-like audio output.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gstreamer-plugins-good-0.10.27-3.fc15.x86_64
gstreamer-plugins-bad-0.10.21-2.fc15.x86_64
gstreamer-plugins-bad-free-0.10.21-3.fc15.x86_64
gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.17-2.fc15.x86_64
mplayer-1.0-0.122.20110227svn.fc15.x86_64
gecko-mediaplayer-1.0.0-1.fc15.x86_64
gnome-mplayer-1.0.2-1.fc15.x86_64

Additional info:
Playing the files with vlc or xine works as expected: clear sound. Only mplayer-based programs, such as smplayer, kplayer, gnome-mediaplayer, are affected.

Comment 1 Peter Gückel 2011-04-03 04:56:57 UTC
I was just listening to some music (mp3, of course) using Amarok, when I realized that I am using the phonon gstreamer backend, so I guess gstreamer is not involved, only mplayer (I had erroneously thought mplayer and gstreamer were the same, since they are neither xine nor vlc).

Same problem here, mplayer 1.0-0.122.20110227svn.fc15.
The problem does not occur with uncompressed pcm.
